1992 to 1996 Ford F Series Trucks AC Clutch Replacement by Howstuffinmycarworks
This video explains how to replace the AC Clutch on Ford F-Series Pick-up Trucks built between 1992 and 1996 Equipped with 302, 351 and 460ci Engines ( 5.0 L, 5.8 L, 7.5 L Engines ).
The truck used for this video is a 1995 F-150 Equipped with a 5.0 L Engine.
The most common problem related with AC Clutches is Bearing Failure, which can be determined from the noise.
The Bearing in this clutch failed during a long trip, we couldn’t remove the belt because there is only one Serpentine Belt for all the accessories, and by removing it the Water Pump and Fan wouldn’t turn causing the Engine to Overheat, and the Power Steering Pump wouldn’t turn either causing the Truck to lose its Power Steering.
We took a chance and drove it all the way home, the bearing got so hot that it started to smoke on the last few miles, it caused small damage to the AC Compressor Shaft but not enough to make it necessary to replace the entire AC Compressor.
